Health Call launches staff COVID-19 vaccine booking app by Health Call on 4th January 2021
Health Call has developed a new online booking platform so that staff working in health and care can book their COVID-19 vaccinations.
Health Call is a collaboration between seven NHS trusts in the North East and North Cumbria which produces digital tools to improve health and care.
Through the new booking system, frontline staff can book their own appointment online. The employer sends a link to their staff members so they can select their appointments at a time that is convenient to them.
There is no clinical data captured at the point of booking. Staff can amend or cancel their booking and they receive appointment reminders in advance.
The COVID Staff Vaccination Booking platform is part of a package of digital solutions which support how organisations are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In December, Health Call launched a COVID Testing App which works alongside a self-testing lateral flow kit to provide quick results and has been designed to capture potential COVID infections in asymptomatic staff before they start their shift.
They have also developed a COVID Oximetry @ Home solution which has been deployed at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This enables patients who have been hospitalised due to COVID to be cared for at home, whilst monitoring their oxygen levels.
So far, Newcastle Hospitals, North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust are all live with the booking platform. More North East trusts are expected to go live in the coming weeks.
Farouq Din, Associate Director of Digital Healthcare at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust said: “Health Call is synonymous with developing applications like the booking platform at pace and was the first place we turned to support the trust. We needed something we could rely on, and quickly in response to the first vaccine gaining safety approval. It is a significant logistical challenge for us to vaccinate all our staff, not once but twice. Using this platform means that we have the confidence we can vaccinate our frontline staff quickly.”
Anna Stabler, chief nurse at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust said: “It’s fantastic we have access to this digital tool as quickly as we have. It which means that our frontline staff can be protected as quickly as possible from this virus. The risk of our staff coming into contact with the virus is higher than for other occupations so this is another way they can be protected.”
Ian Dove, Director at Health Call said: “We are delighted to be working with our partners in Cumbria on this project. With the contract we have signed, all NHS trusts in the North East and North Cumbria can use the app and we are expecting more trusts to go live in next few weeks.”
