What is Health Call?
Health Call is a 100% NHS owned organisation which designs, develops and implements digital health solutions for both patients and their health providers. Health Call has been operating since 2013 and was originally a joint venture between County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust and a private technology company. The first Health Call pathway was developed as a result of joint working between patients on warfarin and their clinical teams. Since then, a number of other products have been developed for the benefit of patients with other conditions, such as gestational diabetes, frailty and musculoskeletal conditions.
Health Call is now owned by seven NHS Foundation Trusts based in the North East and North Cumbria and develops digital healthcare solutions for the benefit of patients across the North East and North Cumbria.
What can Health Call be used for?
Health Call enables the exchange of information between patients and their clinical teams. This means that patients can be more involved in the self-management of their conditions and clinical teams can be more efficient in treating those conditions.
How would Health Call benefit me as a healthcare professional?
Using Health Call products can result in reduced appointments, increasing the time that clinical staff can spend with more complex patients whilst also improving cost-effectiveness in the delivery of clinical services overall.
How can I be sure that my patient’s data is secure?
In choosing our technology partner, we have ensured that they measure up to industry level accreditation and security standards. They are ISO27001, ISO9001 and Cyber Security Essentials certified, are registered with the UK Information Commissioner Office (Z3231188) and are SCCI0129 compliant. This follows the successful completion of the NHS Digital Information Governance Toolkit with a level 3 score of 100%.
Where is the data stored?
Our digital platform is built on Amazon Web Services (AWS), and all data is stored on with the AWS London region.
How does patient data flow into clinical systems?
Patient readings that are input into the system flow straight into the digital health platform. This platform is integrated into clinical systems including EMIS WEB and SystmOne. This integration means patient readings can flow straight into the patient record with just one click.
What is digital health?
Digital health is the process of using technology to improve the way in which healthcare is delivered. As the popularity of modern communication methods continues to grow, so has the concept of digital healthcare. Nowadays, expectations of how healthcare should be delivered are changing. Patients increasingly go online for health information and advice and they self-diagnose, often instead of going to see a GP.
Over the last few years, technology companies have started to answer patient demand which can be seen by the influx of digital health applications, or apps.
What are the benefits of digital health?
Digital Health enables patients to be more self-involved in the management of their health and their medical treatment.
Today, people are actively seeking out information on their health and demonstrating their enthusiasm to use digital technologies to manage their health and communicate with their health care provider.
How does Health Call work and what are the benefits?
Health Call enables patients to manage their health with supervision from their doctors by enabling the transfer of information between patients and their clinical teams. This has the potential to dramatically improve a patient’s quality of life because it gives them the freedom and flexibility to manage their condition from the comfort of their own home. Clinicians are able to watch over patients without the need to attend clinics or surgery appointments unless there is cause for concern. The main benefits of using Health Call include:
- Appointments are reduced
- It enables patients and their carers to understand their condition in more detail
- Many tools nowadays are simple to use for both the patient, carers and clinicians
- Clinicians are able to react to changes in treatment
- Patients can take their reading at a time that suits them, not within surgery hours
